Treasure Quest Year 3:
Now on its third year, the event dubbed as "Treasure Quest: The Sun Star-Isuzu Challenge Year 3," once more brought together motorists, members of the press and self-proclaimed adventurers for a day of tasks that tested their physical, mental, and even vehicle endurance.
The event, which kicked-off at BBQ.com in Panagdait, Mabolo, Cebu City, gathered around 30 groups (with four members each), all vying for the P50,000 top prize, and various consolation prizes. The Treasure Quest first started out as an urban adventure on wheels that aimed to create a unique interaction among Isuzu motorists and Sun Star (Cebu’s premier local newspaper) readers.
This year, the largest reality treasure hunt ever held in Cebu tied up with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce so that Treasure Quest is now an official event during the Cebu Business Month. Part of the objectives of the event is to promote various key spots in Cebu – areas that play a major role in the city’s commercial and tourism industry – by making them venues of the event’s different tasks.
The organizers also tied up with the Energy and Clean Air Project (ECAP) of USAID and Cebu City’s Clean Air Committee as the city is poised to launch the Clean Air Campaign. This is to raise the level of consciousness of the participants and help promote the city’s environmental campaign.
During the race, various teams, drove around major thoroughfares to complete challenges assigned to every team. Some of the event highlights were the beadmaking challenge at the Globe Building, IT Park, the gastronomic challenge (where participants had to consume fares such as okra shake, balot and raw sili) at the Remote Control Race Track, Happy Valley; a messy and muddy scavenger hunt at the JLR Aggregates in Tingub, Mandaue; and a trivia challenge on board one of Cebu’s vital mass transportation, the Trans-Asia 1 vessel, at the Port Area.
By 8 p.m., a victory dinner attended by Isuzu and Sun Star officials concluded the race. Present were: Art Balmadrid, Isuzu VP for Corporate Business Division; Ken Takashima, Isuzu VP Dealer Network Division; Antonio Pineda, Isuzu Cebu Inc. general manager; Lot Neri, Isuzu Mandaue sales manager; Julius Neri, Jr. VP marketing Sun Star Cebu; and Cebu Chamber of Commerce president Francis Monera.
Team Barstanders won the P50,000 prize as champions; Team Protek took 2nd place and P25,000, while Team Gotokids Teen Edition landed on 3rd (with P10,000).
For the special prizes, Team Vudu was the winner for the Globe Fountain of Beads challenge. Team IPI2 on the other hand, which was driving an Isuzu Crosswind, won the Isuzu Fuel Efficiency challenge, and was awarded a cash prize of P25,000. Last year, the team driving an Isuzu Crosswind also won the same category.
"Treasure Quest: The Sun Star-Isuzu Challenge Year 3" was held in cooperation with Globe Telecoms.
So what are you waiting for? You better join Cebu Treasure Quest 2010 now or else my team might get the Prizes!

Virginia Food, Inc. Support Best Cebu Blog Award 2010
VFI began as a backyard poultry and piggery set up in Jagobiao, Mandaue City in the 1960’s as a pastime of Doña Virginia Sy Chiongbian. Hog carcass and dressed chicken and later choice cuts were then rationed to the family’s shipping business as well as its residence in Cebu City. In 1968 the business was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Virginia Farms, Inc.
As demand for processed products increased, a 2,215 sq. m. processing plant with canning facilities was constructed on a two-hectare property in Tugbongan, Consolacion in 1977. Virginia Farms Inc., thus operated both poultry and piggery as well as processing of meat products. In November 1982, production and marketing of processed meats divisions were spun off to form a new corporation, VFI FOOD, INC., later named VIRGINIA FOOD, INC.
VFI is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bureau of Domestic Trade (BOT) and with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Company is a member of the Philippine Association of Meat Processors, Inc. (PAMPI) and is also recognized as an accredited member-exporter of the Philippine Exporter Confederation, Inc. (Philexport).
To respond to the growing needs of the market, the Company constructed in February 1990 a Processing Plant on a seven-hectare compound in Canamucan-Cogon, Compostela which is about 26 kilometers North of Cebu City. The new Plant started to operate in April 1992. It is rated “AA” by the National Meat Inspection Commission (NMIC).
In January 2002, VIRGINIA FOOD, INC. was acquired by the Manila-based AVALON HOLDINGS, INC.
VFI distributes nationwide its frozen processed meat and canned meat products. It has its Head Office on A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City, Cebu and a branch office in Manila, interlinking its distribution network all over the country.

Explore Kawasan Falls in Cebu City
Kawasan Falls is a multi-tiered cascading water that flows out from a 1 sq. m. opening. The first level, which happens to be the largest, is the most crowded. Going uphill to the next level may take fifteen minutes as well as to the third level. If you decide to explore the higher waterfalls, you might need to hire the services of a “carrier-cum-guide” which will be an added cost. So travel light and bring only wash and wear clothing. Guests can bring their own provisions, but if that is cumbersome, they can buy their food from the restaurants at the resort, however, they should be prepared to be shocked of the higher than the usual selling prices which is really normal at establishments of this nature.
If you include this tourist destination in your Cebu Tour, you will experience nature’s beauty in its total grandeur. You can take a dip in the cool refreshing waters that will surely take the tiredness away after the trek and the long bus ride. Here, you can experience “a natural massage” by hiring a raft for about P300 to take you under the falling water. The price is just comparable to the price a professional masseuse would command if you see one in the city. Since Kawasan Falls is 38 ft. deep, you might need to also rent a life vest which costs P30. The additional amount is a small price for your security especially if you are not confident of your swimming skills.
There are many cottages for rent for about P300 around the area, where you can just relax after swimming and just let the serenity of the mountains lull you to slumber. Don’t be annoyed if an occasional shout as well as children’s excited cries wake you up because they are aplenty in popular tourists destinations like this. To avoid them, try to come earlier or better yet, don’t come on the weekend as you might need to compete for space with them, lol. If you want to maximize your Cebu tour, spend an overnight in the falls. Many overnight cottages can be rented for about P800 to P2000 depending on the number of people availing the room.
